New Day, New Direction

I quit my job a month ago.

At the time, it was incredibly scary to take such an action. I have supported myself since I was 19 years old. And, after almost 20 years of standing on my own, I suddenly found myself without a clear path. I just knew that the place I was in was no longer right for me.

I have spent the last month doing a little work for friends, packing my belongings and moving back to my roots in Oregon. Throughout it all, I have reaffirmed what I have always believed: That everything happens for a reason. This change in my life was destined to happen. Not only did I need to return to Oregon to be closer to family, but I needed to reassess what was important in my life. Here's what I now know for sure:

1. Sacrificing your entire life for a paycheck is not worth it. It won't make you happy.
2. Bigger paychecks = more buying power. More buying power won't make you happy either. Often times, it just leaves you deeper in debt.
3. Taking control your life is the ultimate reward.
4. Figuring out what you love to do can be extremely hard after so many years of doing what others love to do.

More to come. For now, just now that I will be living a simpler and saner life.

Leaving California Behind

What an amazing way to come back to Oregon. The state hasn't had this much snow in 40 years.

The first of many things to appreciate.
